Newborn Photography FAQs

Newborn Photography FAQs

When should I book my newborn photographer?

I recommend booking your newborn session during your second trimester. Your due date gives us a guide, and once your baby arrives we can confirm the exact session date based on their arrival. Booking early ensures you have a spot secured, especially during busy periods.

How old should my baby be for newborn photos?

Newborn sessions are ideally photographed within the first 2 weeks, when babies are generally sleepier and curl up naturally. That said, there is absolutely no need to stress if your baby is older. I photograph newborns up to around 8–12 weeks, and every stage has its own beautiful moments to capture.

What happens if my baby won't settle?

This is one of the biggest concerns parents have, and I promise, your baby does not need to be perfectly settled for us to have a beautiful session.
I work slowly and patiently, following your baby's cues rather than rushing through a set of poses. There will be plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, changing, rocking and settling. Sometimes the most beautiful images happen during those in-between moments.

Can siblings be included?

Absolutely! Siblings are very much part of your newborn story and are encouraged to be included. We'll capture some beautiful images of your children together, as well as individual photographs with their new baby.
I also keep things relaxed and child-led, so there is no pressure for siblings to sit perfectly or "perform" for the camera.

Can we include our dog?

Yes! Your pets are part of your family too. I love including dogs in newborn sessions where possible, whether that's a beautiful family photograph together or some sweet images of your baby with their furry sibling.
For studio sessions, we'll chat beforehand about your dog and whether they will be comfortable in the space. For in-home sessions, including your pets is even easier.

Do you offer in-home newborn photography?

Yes! In-home newborn sessions are available and are a beautiful option for families who would prefer to stay in the comfort of their own home.
They're particularly lovely if you have older children or pets, don't want to pack up the whole family, or simply want to document those early days exactly as they were at home.
An $200 in-home session fee is added to your chosen photography package.

Do you provide newborn outfits?

Yes! I have a beautiful collection of newborn outfits, bonnets and accessories available for your session. My wardrobe has been carefully selected to complement my natural, timeless photography style.
You are also welcome to bring sentimental outfits or special pieces you'd love included.

Is your studio suitable for newborns?

Absolutely. My Bacchus Marsh studio is designed to be a calm, bright and comfortable space for newborns and families.
The studio has beautiful natural light, soft white sheers and draping, and a relaxed environment where we can take our time. Everything is centred around keeping your baby comfortable and allowing the session to unfold naturally.

What should parents wear?

I recommend keeping your clothing simple, neutral and comfortable, with soft, timeless colours that won't distract from your connection with your baby.
Creams, whites, beige, soft earthy tones and muted colours work beautifully. For studio sessions, lighter clothing tends to photograph particularly well against the bright, natural backdrop.
You don't need to be dressed perfectly, the focus is on you and your connection with your family.

How long does a newborn session take?

Newborn sessions are intentionally relaxed and can take around 2–3 hours, depending on your baby, siblings and the flow of the session.
There is no need to watch the clock. We allow plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, nappy changes and settling so you never feel rushed.

Maternity Photography FAQs

Maternity Photography FAQs

When should I book maternity photography?

I recommend booking your maternity session during your second trimester. This allows us to secure your preferred date and gives you plenty of time to plan your wardrobe and location.

How many weeks pregnant should I be?

Maternity sessions are generally best photographed between 27-35 weeks, when your bump is beautifully defined but you're hopefully still feeling comfortable enough to enjoy your session.
Every pregnancy is different, so we'll choose a timeframe that feels right for you.

Do you provide maternity dresses?

Yes! I have a beautiful client wardrobe with 40+ maternity pieces, including flowing dresses, two-piece outfits, cardigans and other pieces designed specifically for maternity photography.
You're welcome to use the wardrobe during your session, and I'll help you choose pieces that suit your style, bump and location.

Can my partner and children participate?

Absolutely. Your maternity session isn't just about your bump - it's about celebrating your growing family.
Partners and children are very welcome and we'll capture a mixture of beautiful family photographs, connection between you and your partner, sibling moments and some photographs focused just on you and your bump.

Can maternity photos be taken outdoors?

Yes! Outdoor maternity sessions are one of my favourite ways to capture pregnancy. We can choose a location that complements the style you're after, with golden hour and beautiful natural light being particularly gorgeous.
Outdoor sessions can be relaxed, playful and natural rather than feeling overly posed.

Do you offer studio maternity photography?

Yes! Studio maternity sessions are available at my Bacchus Marsh studio, and they're a beautiful option, particularly during the cooler months.
The studio provides a warm, calm and private environment where we can focus on your beautiful bump and create timeless portraits with a clean, natural aesthetic.

Family Photography FAQs

Family Photography FAQs

What happens if my children don't cooperate?

We don't need them to!
Children don't need to sit still, smile on command or behave perfectly for your family session. In fact, some of my favourite photographs come from the moments when children are simply being themselves.
I use movement, play, connection and gentle prompts to keep children engaged. If someone needs a snack, a cuddle or a little break, that's completely okay. The session is designed around your family rather than forcing your family into a set of poses.

Do you photograph extended families?

Yes! Extended family sessions are available. These sessions are perfect for grandparents, multiple families and larger groups who want to document everyone together.
We'll capture the important group photographs as well as smaller combinations and candid moments throughout the session.

Can we bring our dog?

Absolutely! I love when families bring their dogs along. They're part of your family and deserve to be included in your photographs too.
We'll usually get the important photographs with your dog done early, while everyone is fresh and excited, before allowing them to relax and enjoy the rest of the session.

Where are outdoor family photos taken?

I photograph families at a range of beautiful outdoor locations throughout Bacchus Marsh, Melton and surrounding areas, depending on the style of session you're after.
I love locations with open spaces, long grass, beautiful trees, rolling hills and gorgeous golden light. I'll recommend a location based on your family, the season and the look you're hoping to achieve.

What should we wear?

Think comfortable, neutral and timeless.
I recommend choosing coordinating colours rather than everyone wearing matching outfits. Soft neutrals, creams, earthy tones, denim and muted colours photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family.
Most importantly, choose clothing that allows your children to move, play and be themselves.

Do you photograph families at home?

Yes! In-home family sessions are available and are perfect for families who want something a little more relaxed and personal.
We can document your family exactly as they are at home — playing, cuddling, reading stories, making breakfast or simply hanging out together. These sessions are particularly beautiful for younger children who feel most comfortable in their own space.
An $200 in-home session fee is added to your chosen photography package.
